I was born and raised in the city of Waipahu, Hawaii. In my free time I like to read about interesting inventions that others across the globe have made. I hope to one day work on cool and creative projects that can make a difference in society.
Tawni Chase
Mechanical Engineer
Tawni Chase is a senior mechanical engineering student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and previously earned an Associate in Science in Natural Science for pre-engineering, magna cum laude from Windward Community College. Ms. Chase is a non-traditional, first-generation college student whose interest in engineering and autonomous technologies is driven by her passion for learning, environmentalism, and sustainability. Tawni also has thirteen years of experience as a skilled hairstylist and in result is very detail-oriented, enjoys creative work and working with her hands. Ms. Chase is acting as Assistant Project Manager for team NaviKai and is looking forward to further developing her technical skills, project management skills, and making professional connections as she looks forward to transitioning into the workforce as a mechanical engineer.
Ben Thrun
Mechanical Engineer
Ben is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and has lived in Hawaii since 2011. He is a veteran of the US Navy and enjoys playing trumpet in local orchestras.

Robby Leonillo
Mechanical Engineer
Robert is a Senior in the mechanical engineering program at UH Manoa. He is the system integrator and autonomy subsystem member for team Navikai. As the system integrator, Robert oversees the technical aspects of the realization, manufacturing, and testing of the AUV. Throughout the project, Robert hopes to learn more about autonomy and mechatronics, as he believes that these skill sets can help solve many problems in the field of engineering.

Michael Loui
Mechanical Engineer
Michael Loui is a senior Mechanical Engineering student. His interest in marine robotics has pushed him to participate in various projects on the subject during his time at UH Manoa and Leeward Community College. He hopes to expand his experiences while on this team.

Jason Chan
Mechanical Engineer
Jason Chan is the Mechanical Subsystem Lead and a Mechanical Engineering senior at UH Manoa who has participated in several engineering projects. He enjoys the engineering process, SolidWorks modeling, and analytical calculations. Besides engineering, he enjoys his free time listening to music, playing video games, and going to the beach.

Bryan Campbell
Disaster Planning and Emergency Management
Bryan Campbell is a Junior Disaster Planning and Emergency Management (DPEM) student. With current and previous experience in the field, 9 years of military and 4 years of emergency management service, he is responsible for leading and managing DPEM members of the project.

Joshua Hayworth
Disaster Planning and Emergency Management
Joshua's goal after school is to utilize the skills he has learned to rise the ranks of the Fire Service. In parallel, he is expanding his diving expertise to better the environment and reduce the potential for a loss of human life.

Bryson Amaralo

Bryson has served multiple tours in the United States Army National Guard. He is a senior in the DPEM field and is an expert in logistics. He is the foundation of the project as he influences the team by scheduling operations and acquiring materials.
Grace Malia

She is focused on Public Administration with a concentration in disaster preparedness emergency management. My end goal is to work in the GS system in Hawaii, Washington, or Texas. I love football and am a die hard Houston Texans fan.
